Registration QuestionsCan I change the look of my avatar?Yes! Once you've logged into Second Life, you can your avatar's appearance as much as you like from skin to clothes to hair, even gender. You can even switch your appearance to a non-human avatar such as a dragon, an alien, or a ball of light - in other words, you can do pretty much anything you can imagine. How do names work in Second Life?Each avatar has a unique first and last name. Your avatar's name will be used as your personal identity for others to see. Names cannot be changed later so choose wisely! Can I create my own first name?Yes, as long as it is between 2-31 characters in length and contains only letters and numbers. Remember, Second Life first names are case sensitive. For this reason, many residents choose to capitalize their first name. Do I have to choose a last name from the list provided?Yes. Linden Lab creates all of the last names used in Second Life. But don't worry, Second Life last names do not imply membership in any group or organization nor carry any hidden meaning. Will I be able to change my name later?No. Neither your first nor the last name of your avatar can be changed once you've created an account. Why do you need my e-mail address?To prevent abuse and unauthorized use of Second Life, we require a valid e-mail address to activate your account. Why do I need to select a country?In order to provide a level of service that meets the needs of our global customer base, we ask that you accurately provide your country location. Why do you ask for my date of birth?In order to make Second Life a safe and secure online environment enjoyable for all users over the age of 13, we require an accurate date of birth. By entering your date of birth, you are agreeing that you are 13 years of age or older. Linden Lab reserves all rights to vigorously pursue legal action against all persons who misrepresent personal information or are otherwise untruthful about their identity, and to suspend or cancel Accounts registered with inaccurate or incomplete information. Does my real life gender determine the gender of my avatar?No. The gender of your avatar is initially determined by the default avatar you select in the registration process. Once you log in, you can change the gender of your avatar as often as you like. You can even bypass gender all together if you so desire. Can my password be anything I want?Yes, as long at it is between 6-16 characters in length. To optimize the security of your account, we recommend choosing a password that includes numbers, upper and lower case letters as well as non-alphanumeric characters. What is the purpose of the Security Question?The security question is important in case you ever forget your Second Life name or password. We will need to confirm your identity using the answer you provide in the Security Question field. |
